Nevada police arrested 20-year-old youtuber Ties Granzier and his friend Govert Charles Wilhelmus Jacob Sweep, 21, both Dutch, for breaking into the National Security Building in the state. Granzier has a YouTube channel that bears his first name and has about 730,000 subscribers.
The arrest was held on Tuesday (10) after the pair was sighted inside the construction area. Which is near Area 51. Police said they still drove around for about five kilometers before the invasion.
As usual, the site is full of warnings that warn people not to exceed certain limits, but Granzier and Sweep told police they wanted to see the organization’s premises up close. In his car was found a camcorder with the images they made while breaking the law.
They were sighted circulating in prohibited areas and were detained by police. When approached, both told the authority that they speak and write well in English. They said they saw road signs warning of the illegality of entering the area, but wanted to see what the facility looked like.
The statement continued; “Granzier warned the police that he is a Youtuber and authorities confirmed the information by finding several cameras, a phone, a laptop and a drone inside his vehicle. Both agreed to show the images recorded on the devices to the authorities. “
“Sewwp and Granzier were arrested. They were taken to the Nye County Detention Center and charged with trespassing.” Granzier currently has more than 735,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel, where he uses the name ‘TIES’.
On Tuesday, shortly before being detained, he indicated that he was going to Area 51 in an Instagram post. However, Sweep defended himself by saying that they had no intention of breaking into the secret area, just taking a look at it.
Raids on Area 51
Police are poised for more intrusions in the coming weeks after a Facebook event, called; “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us,”. Went viral, with millions of people expressing interest in participating. The event originally scheduled for September 20 was created as a joke, yet it was removed from Facebook.
Internet users were outraged by the removal of the event. Many of them stated that they would still participate in the action even if the information page no longer exists. After the rebound, a Facebook spokesman told LadBible: “That was a mistake and the event page is now available again.”
